To the Elephant Sanctuary

Last week we had the privilege of having Tim here again. That's right, for those of you who haven't visited, Tim's already been here twice... How many times have you visited us? (I guess it helps that his company paid for his travel... details, details). While he was here, we decided to get out of the city, as we did the city things last time he was here.

In Malaysia, certain parts are actually filled with wild elephants. As the country develops, the elephants begin losing their homes. They have taken some of them and put them in the national park, but due to money constraints, they can't do this with all of the elephants. This results in elephants destroying farms (that destroyed their homes initially) and farmers killing the elephants. There is a park about 3 hours from our house that has taken in some of the elephants to provide a semi-ecotourism place as well as raise awareness.

Every day, they have a program to food, ride, and bathe the elephants. We drove and had a good time. We learned that elephants only have a few teeth way back in their mouth, so you can actually put your hand in their mouth without a problem. It feels like a big tongue, but it's still unnerving as its a huge animal!

Can I get one? But they go SO fast!
