Off to Tioman Island

After we went to the elephant sanctuary, we (Matt) decided to drive over to the east coast for a beach. We (Matt) didn’t realize how far it was, so we were in the car for 4 more hours. We crashed in a hotel for the night and headed to the ferry jetty in the morning. We took a 1.5-2 hour boat the Tioman Island – one of the best snorkeling and diving spots in the world. The water is crystal clear and the coral and fish are extensive.

Because our time was short, we only were on the island for about 4 hours, but they were well worth it. We definitely will go back again.

Matt learned a good lesson on this trip, though… When snorkeling, do it with someone. Matt say a small island off the beach of the bigger island and decided that it would have better snorkeling. Well, he swam, and swam, and swam (see where this is going?)… Well, about halfway out, he realized that he was now right in the middle of where boats pass through, and the island was still a lot further. With NO life jacket, he did the only sensible thing any guy would do… keep swimming so that he could “conquer” the island. Too bad once he go there, he as so tired that he had to get a scuba boat to take him back to the main island. Gotta love guy’s determination, huh? FYI, Tim also felt the need to conquer the island… but he was able to swim there and back :).

The only thing we didn’t like about the island was how many foreigners were there. 90% of the people there were foreigners…

We put over 500 miles on the car this weekend. It did very well, though, so we were happy!
