One of the things the new car didn't come with was the back shelf to cover what's in the hatch back. I borrowed the shelf from a students parent for 30 seconds and traced it on cardboard. Then I cut out some old flooring, painted the bottom black, cut some square pipe, painted the pipe, glued on old black felt and it's finished. It took several hours, but I'm happy with it. I used mostly old stuff I had laying around the house, plus about $5 of glue and other parts. Not sure if it was worth it to avoid paying $30 for the dealer's part, but it is fulfilling to know that I made it.
