Our old couch was so gross - I refused to sit on it.
The support bands were stretching out, so you could feel the wood support. I used old laminate floor boards I had sitting around to fix that. 
It's got an inner cover now.
The final result. I sewed it using old material I had. It also has zippers on the bottom so it can be detached and washed. The only thing I paid for was some screws for less than a dollar. Everything else was extra - I like to Reuse!
