We braved a short 20 minute hike with the kids. There are tours and day trips we could take, but considering it's raining nonstop and we don't have rain jackets and have two picky kids, we've been content to hang out around the hotel. The river and limestone cliffs will be enough nature for us. The kids did good on the hike, but Addison managed to get two (harmless) leeches. They are blood sucking worms that attach on. If you pull them off, their sharp teeth rip your skin and leave a venom that doesn't allow clotting. One leech we got off before it.latched on. The other we had to force it off with bug spray, so since it let go, bleeding was minimal.
It only caused a short panic. I first suggested a lighter, which also makes them back off. Addison freaked out, causing Titus to scream too. In the end it was ok and Addison is interested in hiking more.
