This was our first Chinese (Buddhist background) wedding. It started out with the groom and his groomsmen arriving at the bride's house. The bridesmaids' job was to keep the guys from coming into the house and reaching the bride. First thing the guys experienced was getting lipstick smeared all over their lips. Then the groomsmen had to do a bunch of tests: drink terrible tasting drinks and suck raisins out with a straw; feed a fellow groomsman a cupcake while blindfolded; stand on your hands and kiss another groomsman upside down; and some other things... Once they passed those challenges, the groom had to make a bunch of promises to be a good husband etc and perform more tests. Lastly he had to serenade his bride outside her door till he was allowed in. Those were the interesting parts. After that were more traditional family times of drinking tea, giving blessings and money, performing prayers etc. It was a new experience for us. Matt likened it to some peoples' bachelor parties.
