Ikea Woes... and successes

About a month and a half ago, Angela and I went to IKEA to get kitchen cabinets. We picked out the style we liked, chose the layout, and bought ALMOST everything. A few doors were out of stock, but they said they'd get more in a month or so. No problem, right? Well, after checking a few times, I got a call from IKEA saying the doors would never come because they were having problems with the supplier. Normally here in Malaysia, they'd simply say sorry, and goodbye. Seriously. Well, thankfully, after spending quite a lot on the kitchen (which many of you who have bought a kitchen know about) this reply would have been terrible. Thankfully, they said to come in and they'd see what they could do. They were willing to take back the old cabinets and upgrade to the next up style, for free. This would have been great, if the other style was ok. Instead, it looked cheaper, so that wasn't going to work. Instead, we re-designed the entire kitchen with different sized cabinets to make it work with what they had in stock. The redesign ended up being about 10+% more expensive, and IKEA waved that fee, so we walked out with all the parts needed for our kitchen. In the end, we were very happy with the service and help, and that our kitchen won't have different designs in it. The kitchen is still not ready to be set up, so much of it sits in boxes all around our house... but we're hoping to finish the bathroom and under the stairs room before the end of April and then get the kitchen set up soon after.
