Those Crazy White People

I apologize for not updating our blog in a while. We have both been really busy. This month at school I have a class of 14 students, so preparing and marking is time consuming, and Angela is teaching a class of children – so she can’t simply teach out of the book. Despite this, we’re hanging in there. Also, we have two 6 day work weeks in a row due to a water pipe breaking a few weeks ago. Yesterday (Sunday) we spent the entire day relaxing and filling ourselves up again. In the evening, we watched a guy talking about this exact thing, so it was a good affirmation that sometimes it’s a good thing to relax and rest your body. Although Monday came quickly, we at least felt refreshed.

Last night we finally found some different American cereals here – usually they only have the basics, and usually they re chocolate or some kind of flakes. Well, to our surprise, a store had Marshmallow Fruit Loops and Apple Cinnamon Cheerios. Yes, in America, those are boring flavors, but when you haven’t seen them in over 3 months, they are candy to the eyes. Then, we looked at the price… The only thing we could do was laugh (so we did)… People around us probably thought we were nuts (those crazy white people, you know?), but it didn’t matter. Asking US$8.50 for a box of cereal is absurd!

Language continues to go well. Both of our teachers are recognizing that we’re learning. It’s tough, but we’re plugging through with as much effort as we can. Sometimes we feel so drained and without energy, and at other times we’re so frustrated from not knowing the language, we try all the more.
